Launching an innovative product is good. But making sure it benefits a circular economy and do not create additional waste is better! ā™»ļø

I have been sharing this discussion on FB lately and received some really interesting perspectives and introduced to amazing projects.

I donā€™t want to stop here and am keen to continue this in-depth customers analysis of HOW can we make sure people properly dispose of our new home compostable cups/lids, especially in area where they do not have FOGO / home compost / backyard?

Over the past 10 months, our initial actions have been:

ā€¢ a "straight-to-the-point" name and design: Compost After Coffee

ā€¢ proper messaging and clear disposal instruction (validated by our community)

ā€¢ certification logo on the cup (the ABA trademark is coming too)

ā€¢ creating content showing people how to compost it

ā€¢ encourage compost sharing platform such as ShareWaste

ā€¢ initial conversations on implementing a collection system (similar to terracycle) for businesses that do not compost to send them back to us - this still needs some work as it does not solve the correct disposal after the "take-away" action

ā€¢ initial conversations on a $ based return scheme (similar to the bottle/cans)

ā€¢ using closed loop recycling program at dedicated locations

ā€¢ working with dedicated recycling group that collect food (and other hard-to-recycle) waste weekly to offer their services to our customers when they make an order

ā€¢ ???

Let's make this better, together šŸ’š

*kind reminder that reusables always come first, compostables will always be second
